Though water makes up c. 70% of the Earth’s surface, 99% of this is unusable by humans and other living things! Approx. 3% percent of Earth’s water is freshwater, of which 1.2 percent can be used as drinking water; the rest is locked up in glaciers, ice caps, and permafrost, or buried deep in the ground.
3 Facts
Did you know that stock baskets that come with most consumer and prosumer espresso machines are actually really poorly made? The holes are far from being uniform or circular with some that aren't even fully punched through. This causes uneven flow and thereby affects extraction. The easiest way to fix this is to purchase a precision basket from companies like VST, IMS etc.
No bypass brewers like the Tricolate and Next Level are all the rage right now, but did you know that there’s a brewer that’s been capable of this for a lot longer? The South Indian filter has been around forever and requires all of the water to pass through the bed of coffee with no opportunity to go around it.
Have you heard of the Smart Espresso Profiler? A super cool little gadget that uses a bluetooth pressure transducer to connect to an app, it allows you to graph your pressure profile when brewing espresso. This gives manual brewers like the Flair 58 and Cafelat Robot features similar to the Decent espresso machine at a fraction of the price!
