1 Fun Thing
This week we continue to keep things musical and loved up. Did you know that Whitney Houston’s iconic 1992 song I Will Always Love You, often seen as her signature song, was actually written and recorded almost 2 decades earlier by Dolly Parton, in 1973! The former has 1.1 billion views on YouTube vs. the latter’s 4.6 million views.
3 Facts
Water prefers paths of least resistance when flowing through a coffee bed. This means that the grounds along this path will be over extracted while the remaining coffee will be under extracted. This is termed channeling, and is usually caused by poor distribution or grinding too fine.
Coffee grown at high altitudes are subject to lower temperatures. This slows down the maturation process, creating denser beans and allowing more sugars to develop. The end result is a sweeter, more complex cup, and is why higher altitude coffees are usually more coveted.
Olfactory fatigue occurs when prolonged exposure to strong odours overwhelm receptors in your nose and reduce sensitivity. Perfume sellers often give customers coffee beans to sniff in between smelling scents to counter this. So what do you do when you’re evaluating coffee? Just smelling your own skin or clothes helps reset your nose and palate.
