Stop motion is one of the oldest and most time-consuming forms of animation. As the name suggests, it involves a series of still images, each with a small variation, strung together to create the illusion of motion. Typically, it requires 12 images for every second of footage. This technique is still used today, although with much more sophisticated equipment. To see stop motion in action, check out Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox or Isle of Dogs.
