1 Fun Thing
Carnatic music has one of the most complex systems of rhythm in world music. There are 108 classical talams, or cycles of rhythm, with the most popular being the eight-beat. The Simhanandana talam is said to be the world’s longest rhythmic cycle, with 108 beats. There are intricate talams like Sarabhanandana, which has 79 beats. By comparison, modern English pop songs often have a four-beat rhythm.
3 Coffee Facts
Harvested coffee needs to be slowly and carefully dried. Drying too quickly can lead to overly woody flavours and dramatically reduce shelf life.
“Sidra” is a fairly new varietal cultivated using both of the original coffee varieties, Typica and Red Bourbon. The result is an extremely sweet, bright and complex coffee. It was cultivated in the legendary farm La Palma y El Tucan, in Colombia.
Green coffee ages quicker and develops baggy flavours when stored in jute bags. It can also fluctuate in moisture level due to exposure to the elements. This is the reason the industry is slowly moving over to GrainPro bags which are made of plastic in order to prolong the shelf life of green coffee. Much like with roasted coffee, vacuum packing in these bags can prolong the shelf life even further.
