1 Fun Thing
Love her or hate her, the news is all about her… so we thought we’d join in and share some fun facts about the corgi loving monarch. Queen (then Princess) Elizabeth, and Princess Margaret anonymously partied on the streets of London on May 8th, 1945 to celebrate VE Day. So rare was such an occurrence, it even became the plot for an entire movie!
3 Coffee Facts
What is coffee cupping? Simply put, it is a no-brewer method to taste, evaluate and compare coffees. Hot water is poured into a bowl of freshly ground coffee (~1:18 ratio), and allowed to steep for 3-5 minutes. After this, the foamy crust is removed. At 10+ minutes, you begin tasting, using a spoon to slurp brewed coffee, and continue to do so until the coffee is at room temperature.
When brewing a pourover, the Kubomi Method is a method of preparing the coffee bed in order to maximise the surface area and have the most efficient bloom. This is done by creating a vortex in the grounds using something like a chopstick.
One method of rating coffees is what certified Q-graders do using the Specialty Coffee Association 100-point scale. According to this, coffees over 90 are considered outstanding, 85 - 89.99 are termed excellent, and 80 - 84.99 are considered very good. Commodity coffees score between 60 -79.99. So the next time you see a score, you know what they’re trying to communicate.
